Orlando, Florida…..Disney & Beyond #1

Orlando, Florida…..Disney & Beyond #1

Wow, three post in and I haven’t put it on the shelf yet! Off the topic: Is writing a stress reliever for others as well? I’ve been under incredible amounts of stress lately with work, school, family, home, it’s really been crazy. So, let’s talk Disney! I know, I know, who hasn’t experienced Disney? I’ve been three times and each time has been really different, so let’s explore vacation #1. We usually drive there and from Louisiana to Orlando it’s usually a 12/13hr drive which is long but it’s a good route. Writers fatigue: BRB🤓 Ok, so I categorize this first trip as Disney on a budget… A very tight budget. I was in my last semester of college and my husband was working but we were young with kids and bills so we went budget style. We stayed at a wyndym(sp) resort which was pretty nice aesthetically but we later found out had thieves abound. We did magic kingdom which was expensive but nice. So, I had a very young daughter who wasn’t even one yet and even at magic kingdom they aren’t allowed to ride certain things so we just sat on the sideline and watched(bummer). We also ventured to universal studios which was a waste because my girls were 5 and a baby so it wasnt much for for them either. Florida…was Florida which is all about the attractions and theme parks. Lesson Learned from trip one was this, that you should always look at the options when traveling with little ones. Disney is something you want them to be able to fully participate in and remember which my girls didn’t do either of. My husband and I had fun but we would have had much more fun and money doing them without the kiddos! If you are thinking of Disney and are on a budget the name of the game is plan, plan, plan, and budget, budget, budget. Look for off dates, and alternative times of travel. Assess for family friendly budget resorts or even home rentals. Now that my rat pack is older and after researching various vacation spots all damm year guess where we are heading in a months time…… You guessed it…. Disney🙄😒
It’s like the really bad boyfriend that you just find yourself going back too regardless of how many let downs you’ve had😂😂😂😂
So, I had to double back to say that I’ve never seen a collection so vast of a meeting of the biggest spoiled brats that’s ever assembled. If you ain’t a kid person, stay away….far away.

Ozark Springs, Arkansas….yikes😬

Ozark Springs, Arkansas….yikes😬

So, for my very first review I’ve chosen Ozark Springs Arkansas! Each post for me takes literally days to complete because I always leave something out and I go back a lot. I’ll be doing that often during this one! So my husband and I were newly married and broke! I was in my senior year of college and he was working as a cabinet maker. We slowly financed our own wedding but a honeymoon was something we’d chosen to do at a later date. My big brother to the rescue! My oldest brother decided to give us a trip, yes GIVE us one, how awesome is he? He had gotten a free trip from somewhere and he decided that this would be our wedding gift from him. Now, either my brother adores me or maybe he always secretly despised my ass! Lol
When we looked over the brochure, it was for a three night stay at Ozark Springs mountain resort! What luck (so we thought), so off we go!
We took off in our cherry red rented Chevy aveo(yes we went to a extremely mountainous area in a two door aveo), mistake number 1. Yes we left out with me having to poop while having an extreme aversion to public restrooms, mistake number 2. Let me just say, Arkansas is one beautiful state. This was my first time seeing mountainous terrain and with the back drop of sunset, it looked heavenly. This resort is deep deep almost hidden away in the mountains of Arkansas. Side note: Did I mention that the day before leaving I phoned the resort to ask if “black folks” come there? Answer: “all the time”
Listen y’all, if you can quantify the amount of “blacks” on your property, there’s not many there!
The resort in itself was beautiful, it was quiet, on the water and secluded. After further inspection, we were the only pepper in the salt up there😑 SHIT
There was water sports, one restaurant, a sweets shop, and a dollar general! The rooms were Arkansas modern and huge. To sum up the weekend, because of me we spent the entire time in our rooms. I was young, sheltered, and quite frankly wasn’t in the mood for a good ole lynching😉. We had folks that walked the trails by our porch all of the time, I honestly think they all were in shock to see us there! This trip taught me a valuable lesson, never judge a book by its cover. Maybe we were in the company of some of the best people in the world and refused to even venture out to discover it. As a young black traveler I was scared shitless, maybe almost 10 years later I’d confront this trip differently. If you love solitude, nature, and a picturesque setting, this is your spot! Melinated or not!

First blog post

First blog post

So…….how exactly did I find myself here? Well I’m a 30ish mother of 4, two girls and two boys and I’ve been married to the same lad for ten years this year(God willing). I’m a Registered Nurse by profession and am also in grad school pursuing my Masters in Midwifery. So the question is, why in the hell would I choose to start a blog? I barely have time to start a sentence! Short answer: I’m crazy. Long answer: I love writing my thoughts out. I’ve always been a lover of literature, even though I don’t have much spare time anymore.

Traveling while Black and Country……

So, this idea spawned from all the really funny jokes I’d tell myself while traveling. I love to travel and although there’s many places still on my bucket list, I’m marking some off. I’m loaded with melanin and also country as hell! Im from South Louisiana(not to be confused with North La) and we aren’t much different than we are depicted. We are hunters, fishermen, cooks, crawfish boil having, get together giving, Mardi Gras loving, high cholesterol having folks! I wouldn’t change it for the world. I feel as if we are secluded in our swamps at times. So much of the world operates differently from us but to my surprise this southern quality really draws folks in(they love it when we say y’all by the way). People ask questions, lots of people and lots of questions as if Louisiana is its own country and not a active member of the USA. I want to give a perspective, my thoughts, fears and also hurdles that I’ve crossed while traveling, the black and country edition. For this very reason some other country folks are deterred from traveling, at home or abroad but I’ve got the answers! Well I don’t really have the answers but hopefully they’ll gain an self interest and love of travel. I’ve paved the black and country way………
